It's a bird! It's a plane!! No, it's whatever you want it to be...

I was working out of my favorite coffee shop one day and had an urge to draw something. I personally love the work of David Hale, a tattoo and mural artist from Athens, GA. His strong line work, limited color palette and bold forms possess a distinctive look. My inspiration took the form of an abstract bird. I put pen on paper and created a few different forms that were arbitrary. A few of those forms are shown above.

A few things that went through my head during this process:

I think it is important that we put down our phones and computers and draw something. Anything! I challenge you to do the same. If you have trouble coming up with something to draw, emulate your favorite artist!

While drawing, feel open to the flow of your own ideas. Feel free to draw happy trees and add in a new friend for a cloud, as Bob Ross often did. I think it serves us well to give in to our artistic expression.

One last thing that went through my head; drawing with a pen scares me.
