When in doubt, bend it!

Have you bent a paper clip and created some sort of shape out of it? I think we all have done it. Especially in meetings or long and arduous conference calls. Well, that is kind of how this project began. I found these metal roof cover flashings that I happen to come across at the local Home Depot. I wasn’t sure anything would come of it. I had experience creating various shapes out of paper clips and binder clips, but never something flat, big and bendable. Curiosity took over and I decided to go for it.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but the project was to create 3D renderings of signage for a company of our choosing. I started researching different companies that started with the letters W, V, Y, A, M, N, L or any  other letter with a sharp angle. I knew it would lend well, given the material I chose.

I came across a company that started with a W and dealt with metals and machinery. A perfect fit!

I’m sure I bought at least 50 roof flashings for this project. I wasn’t sure how to manipulate them to create an interesting structure. I wanted the rendering to be self-standing, rugged, and visually interesting.

See my end results in the images above. I Photoshopped the structure into a fitting environment and manipulated lighting, shadows and size to create an accurate rendering.
