High five! Lo-Fi!
/I think a recurring theme in my life is good music. I understand that “good music” is a relative term. Good music can mean different things to different people. I think that’s the beauty behind it.
I’ve been surrounded by music my entire life. I used to take piano lessons when I was younger. I slowly got into saxophone and the drums as I grew older. My parents even used to own a music school.
In high school, I was fortunate enough to attend a class that taught me to create my own music using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and MIDI keyboards. This was my first introduction to music production and I fell in love. On a side note, I highly encourage this type curriculum introduced into schools to teach children at a young age. The positive effects are countless.
Anyways, fast forward a decade or so and here I am. I still listen to music every single day. Of course, my music taste has broadened throughout the years, but the purpose behind listening to it is still the same. I use it to help spark creativity, increase positivity and de-stress.
I found myself listening to a ton of music, however, the joy I had when I created my own music was lost. To find that joy again, I recently decided to invest in a DAW and MIDI controller. Lo-Fi songs felt like the easiest gateway into song creation for me. I was mistaken. It is extremely difficult to create any song from scratch.
I don’t think I am even close to finishing a single song yet. But that’s not the point. Its the process behind creating the music that helps me unwind. I’ll share some songs with you in the near future, but I want to create music for myself first before I share with the world.
